INDICATION:
Sulfadoxine/Pyrimethamine tablet is indicated for the treatment
of malaria due to susceptible strains of plasmodia. This drug is
also indicated for prophylaxis using a weekly or biweekly
regimen.
ADVERSE EFFECT:
With large doses,
anorexia and vomiting may occur. Vomiting may be minimized by
giving the medication with meals. It usually disappears promptly
upon reduction of dosage. Also, large doses as used in
toxoplasmosis may produce megaloblastic anemia, leukopenia,
thrombocytopenia and atropic glossitis.
PRECAUTION:
It should be given
with caution to patients with impaired renal or hepatic
function, to those with possible folate deficiency and to those
with severe allergy or bronchial asthma.
DOSAGE:
To be taken once
every two weeks:
Adults : 2
- 3 tablets
Children : 9
- 14 years: 2 tablets
4 - 8 years : 1 tablet
4 years and below: 1/2 tablet
or as prescribed by the physician.
CAUTION:
Foods, Drugs,
Devices and Cosmetics Act prohibits dispensing without
prescription.
